About Sal Co.
Our Mission
At Sal Co., we believe good food should tell a story.
We’re a small, family-inspired business rooted in the flavors, traditions, and culture of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. What started with a love for traditional food and the way our families have always prepared it has grown into a passion for creating snacks that honor those traditions while keeping ingredients simple, intentional, and clean.
Every batch is handcrafted, hand-peeled, hand-sliced, and made in small batches. We take our time because we believe the details matter.
Our plantains are cooked in 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef tallow rendered from suet—the firm fat found around the kidneys and other internal organs of the animal. Our tallow is non-deodorized and non-bleached, keeping it as close to its natural state as possible and honoring the traditional use of rendered animal fat in cooking.
Every spice and blend we use is 100% organic, carefully selected and curated by hand to bring the bold, familiar flavors of Puerto Rican and Caribbean cooking to every bite.
We keep it simple. No MSG. No fillers. No anti-caking agents. No artificial colors. No artificial flavors. Just quality ingredients, traditional methods, and recipes inspired by the people and culture we love.
At Sal Co., we're not trying to reinvent tradition—we're bringing it back to the table.
Hi, I’m Mandy!
If you need to find me, I’m usually somewhere between soaking in the sun or experimenting in the kitchen. I’ve always been drawn to the slow island life—where the days are dictated by the tides, the community is warm, and food is deeply connected to the earth.
As someone with Puerto Rican and South American roots, plantains have always been a staple in my family. But my love for food goes far beyond plantains. I’ve always been fascinated by health and wellness and completely in awe of what the earth provides us with—the foods that nourish our bodies, the spices that bring our meals to life, and the natural ingredients people have relied on for generations.
At the heart of Sal Co. is my quest to get back to God-made food.
I believe there is something beautiful about eating what God has given us from the earth rather than what a machine has engineered for us. Somewhere along the way, we lost touch with the simplicity of real food. Our kitchens became factories, our ingredient lists became endless, and ultra-processed foods became the norm.
I wanted to go back.
Inspired by the coastal way of life and the traditions of Puerto Rico and South America, Sal Co. was created around a simple philosophy: eat what grows around you, keep ingredients simple, make food with intention, and let freshness speak for itself.
Plantains are a perfect example. They grow from the earth, they’ve nourished generations of families, and they can be transformed into something delicious with just a few simple ingredients.
That’s why Sal Co. is the first-ever plantain chip brand cooked exclusively in 100% grass-fed/finished tallow made in the USA. We’re bringing traditional cooking methods into modern snacking while leaving ultra-processed seed oils behind.
No shortcuts. No complicated ingredient lists. No ingredients you need a chemistry degree to understand.
Just green plantains, unrefined sea salt, organic spices, and a cooking method rooted in tradition.
Sal Co. is my way of reconnecting with the foods, cultures, and slower ways of living that inspired me growing up—and sharing that feeling and lifestyle with you.
From the soil to the sea, I believe food should be simple, nourishing, and made from what the earth has already given us.
God made it. We simply made it delicious.
